Silver Spring sits at the northern gateway of Washington DC — a community that has transformed over the past two decades into one of the most culturally diverse places in Maryland. The Silver Spring and Takoma Park corridor has a strong Caribbean and African diaspora community, a growing Latino population, and a long tradition of Black-owned businesses serving the community. Downtown Silver Spring's renaissance has brought new investment but also displacement pressure — supporting Black-owned businesses here is an act of cultural preservation as much as it is community building.
